Christmas Time

Merry Christmas
To all the readers of this blog and listeners of this podcast, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The show will be taking Christmas week off, but will return on Jan 2nd, 2007. We already have some terrific stories ready to go! We both hope you have a fantastic holiday. Take it easy. Don't do too much. There is a lot of be said for laziness. In fact, I talk about it all the time.

Where Is This Show Going?
I wanted to take a little time and talk about the direction of the show. Eric and I don't want to bloviate about stuff we don't know, and we don't want to degrade into Cranky Old Men, although that would be fin if we were 60-ish. We do aspire to be Crotchety, but that's a different story.

We will be experimenting with a slightly shortened show time come Jan 2nd for a couple weeks just as a test. We'll be going to around 30 min to see if the show can gain a little more focus, and we'll be introducing a new themed segment -- something we're very excited about. It's a little unorthodox, but we've crossed that line back in show #3 so there's no turning back now.

Over the past 9 episodes we've dabbled in stories from the entire news spectrum: a little bit "news of the weird," and a little bit foreign policy commentary among others. But deep down the show is about one major thing, and that how the federal and state governments have a tendency to whittle away (slowly) at rights we have as citizens in the name of protection and safety, and how the populace (by and large) let them simply because people would rather be cared for than responsible.

That, my friends, is the what PYT is about, and if that is not your interest then this show is not for you. If it is, then great, stay on board, feed us any news we miss, and we will feed you a good daily dose of insensitivity.

We look forward to seeing you in 2007!

Aaron

Welcome to the eighth installment of Poor Young Things, the show that always references mammary glands in the title (because we realized that gets us many more listeners). This week, we give Vermont a rest while bringing even more shame to Ohio, as well as to Utah and the Dixie Chicks. Also in the offering this week is our brand new logo, soon to be known worldwide as the premier symbol of liberty and freethinking and angry young men.

PYT To Return With Killer Show on 12/12

Thursday, December 07, 2006

Thanks for waiting it out with us everyone. PYT will podcast again, after a week's hiatus, on 12/12 (That's next Tuesday). We have a great show lined up for you and are really excited about it.

By the way, let it be said here that we've beaten O'Reilly to one story already and would have beaten him to another had we not had to take the week off. Not bad, eh? The story was about the 8 yr girl on YouTube spouting leftist propaganda and was broadcast on PYT show #6, so we beat him by more than 2 weeks. The sad thing is that O'Reilly's angle was, in this reporter's view, weak. He called it child abuse (doesn't everyone just love that word?) and held the point of view that her parents teaching her to say those things constituted a punishable offence. Sorry, Mr. O'Reilly, that's a bit extreme. The child, living with liberal parents, would learn their values anyway. That means we have to punish every liberal parent who teach their children their own values as they grow up. O'Reilly then introduced a child abuse expert who made an interesting point: that the parents might have put their child in harm's way by uploading her to YouTube. Hmmm...that's not a bad deduction. There's enough nutjobs out there to make that possible. Let's hope not.

On the upcoming show #8, we'll explore such things as the Dixie Chicks movie, and what it says about liberal philosophy in general, as well as some disturbing rulings from Utah and Ohio. Actually, Ohio makes it into show #8 twice, which makes three total times Ohio has been in the show. That's just strange.

The truth is, folks, that America is a wonderful place to live. We have more money and freedom than any other culture in history. When we explore darker stories, like the one we'll be doing from Utah, it isn't to rile people up. It's because we see this society slowly asking the government to do more and more for it. Subjects like sex offender laws, or any cases dealing with sex and minors, are disturbing by their very nature, yet the precendent and meaning behind them is extremely important. We only bring these stories up because they hold truths about the culture at large. They are easy stepping stones to bigger issues, as was brought to light when we did the Ohio sex offender story for show #3. Exactly what to do with people under the age of 18 who have sex can be a polarizing topic. Morally, most of the listeners of this show would say "yes, it's a mistake, but one many people make". So would we. How should the law treat these people? Should the law be involved at all? Be thinking about these topics; we plan on having a good discussion on this come Tuesday. We relish your comments and viewpoints, and the ones made about show #3 by Matt Carson and a few others generated excellent debate and dialog.

We're all doing the show together, listeners. That's how I see it. You're part of the crew, helping to work out the issues we all should be able to understand in order to successfully navigate life in these United States.

Keep in touch and thanks for all your feedback thus far.

Ben Takes Photo Of Himself Everday, Constructs Narrative

This is one of the most creative self-made videos I have ever seen. The "photo of yourself everyday" with a remarkable narrative twist.

No PYT This Week, But....

Sunday, December 03, 2006

Sorry folks, no PYT this week. My schedule is just too packed, and school deadlines are looming. We will return next Monday though with a great show.

We will not leave you empty handed right now. Here's the unveiling of the new PYT logo. Enjoy!
